Walking Holloway: Mindful Estate Walkshop

As part of Urban Tree Festival, we were commissioned by the festival and funded by the City of London Corporation to deliver a gentle and joyful walkshop for Holloway Estate residents. This evening stroll through estate gardens followed by an optional outdoor zine-making session was designed to be inclusive and accessible. No special gear. No training. Just the chance for residents to see something familiar with fresh eyes, ignite their creativity and to be together while doing it.

Impact

People slowed down. Some shared memories. Others simply walked quietly beside someone new. It didn’t look like much from the outside, but we know better. It was community in motion. We walked barefoot on the grass and smelled the red roses in bloom. Later, a young person took a break from revising for his GCSEs to make a zine with us. Participants said the session helped them see their estate, and each other, in a different light. It also quietly built awareness of how the City is investing in wellbeing for those who call its estates home.

  • “I really enjoyed it and am definitely going to try to make more of an effort to take a break in the gardens more often. It's a nice way to meet neighbours.”
