Open House London
21st September 2018
It's an opportunity to take a look behind the scenes for free!
Open City is a UK-based charity promoting people-centred activities including the annual Open House festival – the world’s biggest architecture festival. This weekend members of the public like us can enjoy access to iconic buildings, private homes and properties of architectural note. Take a visit, neighbourhood walk or architect-led tour. Attend talks on urban design, the housing crisis and the hidden heroes of engineering.
It’s all free and the events programme offers something for everyone. Come along and see things differently, which is impossible not to do when our skyline is ever-changing as the CEO of Open City noted on an Open house Thames architecture boat tour:
You really feel it at Vauxhall where, for a moment, there are riverbanks on three sides – left, right and straight ahead – each with ‘forests’ of steel and glass. Is this London, you ask? Are these twinkly, glittering towers today’s Georgian terraces? And, while you’re not sure what to think, deep down you know that, yes, this is London. This is what London does. It builds. And rebuilds. And builds. And rebuilds. And so on.
– Rory Olcayto
All 33 of the city’s boroughs are participating this year. Open House London is set to be another celebration of the capital’s places, buildings and spaces. Are you coming?
