Urban Curiosity is a creativity and wellness company that helps busy people slow down and see things differently. The Urban Curiosity self-nourishment approach encourages frazzled urbanites to get more joy, wonder and wellness in their lives. No raisins, no sitting still – just noticing their life, their environment and the people around them.
Its mission is to show people that it is possible to live in a hectic, cacophonous city and still find moments of quiet, calm, and heartfelt human connection every day. We don’t have to sleepwalk through life, and we don’t have to constantly sprint from point A to point B at a pulse-pounding pace. We can find equilibrium. We can choose to thrive.
This is a message that is deeply needed in our world right now, especially as city populations continue to swell, and as our days become filled with more smartphone apps and less eye contact. We could all use a little more curiosity, wonder, reflection, and meaningful connection with ourselves and one another.
Urban Curiosity was founded in 2014 by London writer Clare Barry after she experienced burnout and her rockstar neurologist instructed her to take daily walk to recover from back surgery. A simple stroll without her smartphone changed her perspective and inspired the walkshops Clare leads today. These two-hour sessions are part digital detox, part creativity class – on foot – in London neighbourhoods like Bermondsey and the East End.
The company offers e-courses on writing for wellbeing and mindful walking plus Reviving Retreats with Savse smoothies. The Urban Curiosity podcast launched in summer 2017 and each week Clare interviews interesting urbanites from all over the globe to explore how we can thrive in cities addicted to speed. Guests include the co-founder of the Museum of Happiness, a peak performance expert, an artist, author and actress, a conscious leadership coach and they all have one thing in common: curiosity!
