East London Vibes
A Sunday stroll around Brick Lane reminds me about the act, not outcome, of creating.
A Sunday mooch around east London is one of my favourite things to do. Recently, I met up with my friends to check out the Hamburg Festival on Brick Lane, marvel at the graffiti and admire the Spitalfields architecture.
We ate Turkish street food in Spitalfields Market.
We heard rappers and acapella singers from Hamburg and guitarists from London.
We smelled the whiff of weed and felt the heat of London’s brief Indian summer on our backs.
We watched a pair of Italians who visit London once a month to create paint graphic and abstract colours on a large wall. They told us about how the process and creative expression is reward enough. Street art in this area is ephemeral and they know their work could be covered over by another within hours. It isn’t about the legacy – it’s about the feeling of making and creating.
When do you feel calm and in flow from the act of doing something? How easy is it to let go of the outcome and enjoy the creation part?
PS. Thank you to A, V and R for being such agreeable actors. Haha!
